Summer Reading

We love, love reading. When we first moved here last year,we decided we needed to find some cheap fun ASAP, and made our way to the library. We go twice a week (once for storytime and once as a family) and fill up 2 bags full (the librarians always tease us). What can I say? We all love reading.

In April (after things got settled from the move), I decided to begin reading chapter books with Adam while Grace took her naps. We still read picture books together, too, but I thought it would be good for him. I had visions of introducing all the great classics to him that I loved when I was younger, and made a list. And then after the first week I realized that Robert Louis Stevenson might be a bit above his level right now, so I changed that list. :)

We've had a lot of fun this summer reading. It's been fun finding all the books I loved as a child and introducing them to him.

Here's Adam's list so far:

* James and the Giant Peach by Roald Dahl (had to edit some of the more colorful words... goodness!)

* The Witches by Roald Dahl (he LOVED this one)

* The BFG by Roald Dahl (very fun)

* The Boxcar Children by Gertrude Chandler Warner (he thought this was boring)

* The Hardy Boys #1 The Tower Treasure by Franklin W. Dixon (currently reading... I thought it might be too advanced, but he insisted on something more exciting after Boxcar)

* The Mouse and the Motorcycle by Beverly Cleary (on waiting list at the library)

We should be through when he starts school in 34 days. Crazy.

And my summer reading list (just in case you were wondering... even though you probably weren't... I've finished all but the last two) :

* The Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown

* Angels & Demons by Dan Brown
* Deception Point by Dan Brown

* These is My Words by Nancy Turner

* Hearts of the Children series by Dean Hughes
* The Host by Stephenie Meyer (waiting list)
* Breaking Dawn by Stephenie Meyer (9 days to go)

I would list Mike's, but his reading consists of books about leadership and being a better person and non-fiction LDS. That kind of boring nonsense. :)

I've been finding more and more things that I love about summer (strange), and reading is one of them. When it's too hot outside, staying in with a good book in the cool A/C can't be beat.

Anyone have any recommendations for good books?
